Corsamat: covering the whole of Corsica, with Bobcat and Doosan

Corsamat dealership

Marc Montagnon, journalist for BTP Magazine in France, recently had the privilege of visiting the Corsamat dealership in Corsica.

Corsamat has been selling and hiring out Doosan products since June 2010, from branches in Bastia and Ajaccio in the two administrative departments that make up Corsica. Doosan is an important addition to the construction and public works product offering of this long-standing dealer, who already represented Bobcat, Bomag, SDMO, Ingersoll Rand and Delair. All began for Corsamat  with Ingersoll Rand,  then with Sambron and it was only natural, that following the purchase of Sambron by Bobcat,  Corsamat then became a  Bobcat dealer and later a Doosan dealer after the Korean company took control of Bobcat.  "In the beginning, we only hired outmachines," explains Frédéric Chavazas, "but gradually we began selling them too. Now, our turnover is more or less split 50/50 between rental and retail.

Corsamat employs a staff of 23 at its two sites, one in the north and the other in the south of Corsica. The areas covered by the two branches are determined by Corsica's unique geography. All models are available for rental, to satisfy peaks in demand and to meet the needs of widely dispersed work sites. Sales are largely concentrated around Bastia and on the eastern plain, where industry is most developed, and in the Balagne region (Île-Rousse and Calvi) and the far south (Porto Vecchio and Bonifacio) where the construction of buildings is booming.

Corsamat manages a rental fleet of around 200 machines of all types, including some thirty mini-excavators, fifteen or so skid-steer loaders and telescopic handlers, as well as an assortment of man platforms, compactors, compressors and generator sets. "Our strength," Frédéric Chavazas continues, "lies in a highly efficient after-sales service, which has enabled us to gain a significant share of the market, as well as in the breadth of our services." Corsamat is known as being specialised in the installation and maintenance under contract of a large fleet of generators with hospitals, supermarkets, most EDF power control centres, and even in traffic light control centres run by army engineers.

The successful addition of the complete Doosan range has significantly expanded Corsamat's offer, especially in the areas of hydraulic excavators and wheel loaders, a large number of which have been quickly sold since June 2010.
