Doosan Construction Equipment has won orders for a total of 12 new DA30 articulated dump trucks (ADTs) from Ploegam B.V., the civil engineering contractor based in Vinkel in the Netherlands. Supplied by Lieshout-based S.J. Staadegaard & Zonen B.V., the first six of the new ADTs were ordered for work on a project won by a joint venture of Ploegam and the Van den Biggelaar Group.
The other six machines were ordered separately for work on another project subsequently won by Ploegam in Lent. As a result, nine of the trucks have been delivered in Ploegam colours, whilst the other three bear the colours of Van den Biggelaar.
Ploegam is a family run business established in 1987, headed up by brothers, Chris and Gijs Ploegmakers and their sister, Yvonne. The company provides high quality civil engineering services for earthmoving, landscaping, road and water projects. As well as the headquarters in Vinkel, the company has branches in Dronten (Ploegam North) and Alblasserdam (Ploegam West).
Commenting on the Doosan order, Chris and Gijs Ploegmakers said: “We currently have a Doosan DX140W wheeled excavator and two Doosan DX225LC crawler excavators which were supplied by Staadegaard. We have been pleased with the performance of the Doosan machines and the service provided by Staadegaard, so coupled with our previous experience of Moxy dump trucks on which the Doosan dump trucks are based, the new Doosan DA30 ADTs seemed a logical choice.”
The decision in favour of the Doosan range was confirmed by the results of several weeks of tests on a Doosan DA30 dump truck on a local job site.
The DA30 truck is powered by a clean and powerful Scania engine with SCR technology, combined with the latest state-of-the-art ZF EP8 gear transmission to reduce fuel consumption.
The 5-cylinder Scania DC9 Stage IIIB compliant diesel engine offers a gross power output of 276 kW (375 HP). In combination with the high engine power, the DA30 also has a very high gross torque (1873 Nm at 1300 rpm), to produce the powerful rim pull required to work in extreme hauling conditions. The increased engine power is combined with SCR technology for ‘best-in-class’ fuel consumption with a higher top speed of 58 km/h (34 mph).
Contributing to the overall 8% reduction in fuel consumption is the new ZF transmission offering 8 forward and 4 reverse speeds. The fully automatic transmission with smooth Tiptronic gear-shifting (both automatic and manual gear functions are available) allows the operator to concentrate on working conditions and improves the transfer of power from the engine to the wheels.
Added to this are other unique features of the Doosan ADT range, such as the free-swinging rear tandem bogie system; the sloping rear frame for ideal weight distribution and therefore lower ground pressure; the specially designed body for easy loading and the very comfortable cab, all of which were key factors in Ploegam’s decision to purchase the Doosan DA30 ADT.
In addition, after having analysed the projects on which the DA30 machines would be working, Doosan and Staadegaard were able to offer a package that truly matched Ploegam’s requirements. As well as customer colours, all the units are fitted with a tailgate, wide tyres, side extensions, a payload meter and body heating, to ensure they are the best products for Ploegam’s applications.
Complementing the truck’s permanent six-wheel drive, the free-swinging rear tandem bogie on the DA30 is designed to ensure that all six wheels are in continuous contact with the ground, enabling the truck to operate on very rough and soft terrain. The articulation hinge is positioned behind the turning ring to provide equal weight distribution even during maximum turning and ensure full contact between the tyres and the road surface.
The sloping rear frame enhances the stability of the truck thanks to its low centre of gravity and allows fast and easy tipping, even in the most demanding conditions.
